Interstellar is a 2014 science fiction film directed by Christopher Nolan. Starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, and Michael Caine, the film features a team of space travelers who travel through a wormhole in search of a new habitable planet. It was written by Jonathan Nolan and Christopher Nolan, Christopher combined his idea with an existing script by his brother that was developed in 2007 for Paramount Pictures and producer Lynda Obst. Legendary Pictures, which formerly partnered with Warner Bros., also sought a stake. The three companies co-financed the film, and the production companies Syncopy and Lynda Obst Productions were enlisted. The director also hired cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema since his long-time collaborator Wally Pfister was busy working on Transcendence, his directorial debut. Interstellar was filmed with a combination of anamorphic 35 mm and IMAX 70 mm film photography. Filming took place in the last quarter of 2013 in locations in the province of Alberta, Canada, in southern Iceland, and in Los Angeles, California. The visual effects company Double Negative created visual effects for Interstellar.

Interstellar premiered on October 26, 2014 in Los Angeles, California. Commercially, it is scheduled for a limited release in North America (United States and Canada) on November 5, 2014 and a wide release on November 7, 2014. It will also be released in Belgium, France and Switzerland on November 5, 2014 and in additional territories in the following days, including the United Kingdom on November 7, 2014. For the limited release in North America, it will be released in 70 mm and 35 mm film formats in approximately 240 theaters which still project the formats, including at least 41 70 mm IMAX theaters. For the wide release, it will expand to theaters that will show it in digital format. Paramount Pictures will distribute the film in North America, and Warner Bros. will distribute it in the remaining territories

Described by the composer himself as ‘the king of instruments’, the organ and its music form a small but not insignificant part of Mozart’s vast œuvre. This new release, performed by acclaimed Italian organist Ivan Ronda, comprises all of his major works for the instrument, including the extended Adagio and Rondo in C minor and the small-scale works from the London Sketchbook. Also included is the charming Adagio in C for the glass harmonica: just 28 bars in length, the work was originally conceived for this curious instrument, which consists of glass bowls that rotate in water, but is equally effective on the organ. Mozart’s output of Church Sonatas – notable for their single movement form – are represented here by the Sonata in C K336, the only one to have a proper solo part for the organ, and was specially transcribed by André Isoir for this recording.

The disc is rounded off with the imposing Fantasia in F minor. Described in Mozart’s own catalogue of work as ‘an organ piece for a clock’, it was commissioned by Count Joseph Deym for a musical automaton that contained a small pipe organ. When transferred to an organ on the scale of that at the Church of Maria Vergine Immacolata in Gallo Cavour, Italy, where this recording was made, it takes on a certain grandeur, and exploits the various echo and dialogue effects of the instrument.

Der wissenschaftlich fundierte Politthriller über gentechnisch veränderte Organismen (GVO) räumt mit Halbwahrheiten auf und bereichert die unverzichtbare Debatte über die Ernährung der Weltbevölkerung und den Schutz von Gesundheit und Umwelt mit sachlichen Argumenten.

Seit 20 Jahren werden gentechnisch veränderte Organismen (GVO) weltweit angebaut. Durch Manipulationen am Erbgut lässt sich insbesondere der Ertrag von Pflanzen steigern. Doch der Einsatz von Gentechnik in der Landwirtschaft ist weltweit stark umstritten. Umso aufgeheizter ist die Debatte; die Unterscheidung zwischen Fakten und pseudowissenschaftlichen Argumenten fällt zuweilen schwer. Was stimmt, was ist erfunden? Wo liegt die Wahrheit über die Grüne Gentechnik? Durch Gentechnik entwickeln Pflanzen eine höhere Resistenz gegen Insekten oder Herbizide wie Glyphosat. Doch auch die Schädlinge entwickeln eine Immunität gegen die Pestizide, und die Dosen müssen zur Beunruhigung von Gesundheitsexperten erhöht werden. Im Jahr 2015 wurde Glyphosat von der Weltgesundheitsorganisation als „wahrscheinlich krebserzeugend für den Menschen” eingestuft. Monsanto widersprach und berief sich auf eine deutsche Studie, die zwischen Krebs und Glyphosat keinen Zusammenhang fand. Trotzdem sorgen sich Verbraucher zunehmend um ihre Gesundheit, die Umwelt und das Übergreifen der GVO auf traditionelle Pflanzen. Um die Verbraucher zu beruhigen, entwickeln die Forscher nun gentechnisch veränderte Lebensmittel mit offensichtlichen Vorteilen – wie den Goldenen Reis, der mehr Vitamin A enthalten soll als seine natürlichen Verwandten. Ist Gentechnik nun ein Fluch oder ein Segen? Der Film, der in elf Ländern auf vier Kontinenten gedreht wurde, geht der Gentechnik und den damit verbundenen Fragestellungen auf den Grund und lässt Wissenschaftler, Landwirte, Lebensmittelhersteller und Züchter von genmanipulierten Pflanzen und Tieren zu Wort kommen.

Die Weiten des Universums scheinen grenzenlos. Die Unendlichkeit können wir mit unserem Verstand nicht erfassen. Gibt es vielleicht doch eine Grenze? Harald Lesch wagt den Blick zum Rand der Welt.
Kein Objekt ist je weiter in den Weltraum vorgedrungen als die unbemannten Raumsonden Voyager 1 und 2. Seit über 40 Jahren sind sie unterwegs und senden noch immer Informationen vom Rand unseres Sonnensystems zur Erde. Inzwischen haben beide den interstellaren Raum erreicht – eine so weite Reise hatten die Entwickler selbst nicht vorgesehen. Doch auch diese Sonden werden erst in circa 30.000 Jahren in den Einflussbereich des nächsten Sterns gelangen.

Im 16. Jahrhundert glaubten selbst die Gelehrten, die Sterne würden auf kristallenen Sphären um die Erde kreisen. Giordano Bruno, ein Priester, der diese Vorstellung zu bezweifeln wagte, bezahlte seine Weitsicht mit dem Leben. Seine Idee eines unendlichen Universums war nicht unbegründet. Doch er hatte nicht die Möglichkeiten, seine Vorstellungen zu beweisen. Es fehlte eine Messlatte, mit der man die Entfernungen zu den Sternen hätte bestimmen können.
Noch Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts glaubten Astronomen, unsere Milchstraße sei die einzige Galaxie im Universum. Erst die Arbeit einer klugen Frau sollte daran etwas ändern. Henrietta Swan Leavitt durfte, wie viele ihrer Zeitgenossinnen, nur wissenschaftliche Hilfsarbeiten übernehmen. Sie zählte Sterne auf Fotoplatten und lieferte den Astronomen die Daten zu. Bei der mühsamen Auswertung unzähliger Abbildungen des Himmels fiel ihr etwas auf: Bestimmte Sterne ändern regelmäßig ihre Helligkeit. Mit ihrer Beobachtung lieferte Henrietta Leavitt die Grundlage für die Vermessung des Universums. Mit modernen Teleskopen vermessen wir den Kosmos immer genauer. Das bekannteste von ihnen: das Hubble-Weltraumteleskop. Kann es uns auch Botschaften vom Rand des Universums übermitteln?
